When you get your hair colored at a salon like Five60 Salon, you should try to make your hair color last as long as possible. However, you may not be aware of exactly how you can achieve longer lasting color while going through your daily hair care routine. Here are a few tips you can use.

Prepare For Coloring

What you do before you color your hair is just as important as what you do afterwards. A day before you color your hair,  you should use a clarifying shampoo to strip the hair of any residue that may have built up from the styling products you use. Hair that has a lot of styling product residue is less likely to hold color for a long time.

Get Heat Protection

Heat will strip hair color quickly. If you use heated styling tools regularly, it is best to cut back when you have colored your hair. If you must use heat, then protect your hair color by using a thermal hair protector to prevent color from fading.

Avoid Hot Shower Washing

Hot water opens up the hair cuticle causing your color to be released, so never wash your colored hair while taking a hot shower. It is best to shampoo and rinse your hair with room temperature water. After shampooing and rinsing, condition your hair and rinse it with the coldest water you can bear. The cold water will seal your cuticle and this helps to prevent color from fading.

Avoid Hard Water

The hard water from your shower can also strip your hair color. Consider investing in a shower filter to remove chlorine and harmful minerals in the water.  The less contact you have with chlorine and minerals the longer your color is likely to last. You should also avoid dipping your head in the water if you go swimming in a pool, since the chlorine in swimming pools will also strip your hair color.

Wait Before Washing Your Hair

Try not to wash your hair for a least a day or two after you color it. This will help your color last longer. After twenty four or forty eight hours has passed then you can use a gentle shampoo to wash your hair. You should also consider using dry shampoos sometimes, since these are not as hard on your color as most regular shampoos.

Keeping your hair color for longer can be challenging while trying to style your hair and keep it clean. However, if you take a few simple precautions you will be able to enjoy your color longer.
